Mr Carrothers is not only a brilliant surgeon, he is kind and compassionate. His care of my husband (knee replacement) was amazing, nothing was too much trouble from the time he saw my husband pre op, throughout his hospital stay and post op. He treated both my husband and me as if we were part of his family though professional at all times. As an ex nursing sister with experience of working with many doctors I think Mr Carrothers is exceptional..

Reluctant to undergo surgery, there was no alternative to alleviate the pain from my rotten hip. When I attended an appointment, Mr Carrothers immediately put me at ease by listening, answering questions and explaining the procedure. The whole team were excellent, from initial telephone call (Carol), Consultant anaesthetist, physio and the nursing care at the Spire. They have this procedure organised in a very efficient and almost pain free way. 7 weeks on, I am walking 3 miles and back on my stationary bike. Thank you for the great care Mr Carrothers.

I was told that Mr Carruthers was the best Consultant, when I called the Spire Lea asking for who they recommend for a review of an arthritic hip. I met with him in December 2019. I was an emotional wreck. I was in pain unable to walk, still working full-time. Trying not to go off sick. From the first moment he called me into the room he put me at ease. He listened with empathy as I poured my heart out to a complete stranger. He explained that the only option was a total hip replacement. His explaination was clear, consise and very honest. He put me at ease straight away as well as passing me a box of tissues. My procedure didn’t happen until May 2021 partially due to Covid and having to work both lockdowns. I was extremely nervous as I had managed to reach the grand old age of 54 yrs with no major ops. When I came into hospital I was met by Joy one of the ward nurses she was so kind and explained things so well. Mr Carruthers came in and explained again the procedure. His bed side manor was second to none, again very empathetic. The theatre staff and the gasman was totally fab too. Post op I would say was very painful but again Joy was very kind as we’re all the nursing staff. Especially the ladies that helped me wash the first day. May I say I have nothing but praise for Mr Carruthers and the staff of the Spire Lea Hopsital. Can I also mention Chris the Physiotherapist who coaxed me out of bed on day one. Carol, Mr Carruthers secretary was nothing but so helpful and I felt that I was talking to a friend so professional but reassuring. Mr Carruthers you and your whole team have given me my life back. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. ‘It is very different being the other side of the sheets’. Thank you all again.

I had been experiencing problems with my knee , and on consulting with Mr Carrothers he suggested that a replacement would be the best option . With the help of an x ray Mr Carrothers explained what was causing the issues I was having and what could be done to rectify the situation . He is very patient and talks to you rather than at you & answers any questions that you may have . The procedure itself is explained in as much detail as you may want .

A very reassuring professional and great Surgeon. I understood all of my procedure and I'm now either weeks post a hip replacement and if anything I'm ahead of schedule . All the pain I suffered pre-op has gone. I highly recommend Mr Carrothers.
